Currently, it takes about six months to a year to get US Citizenship from the time you apply. But the process actually starts when you first get your US green card.
In order to be eligible for citizenship, you must meet six basic requirements.
One – Be a lawful permanent resident, also known as a green card holder
Two – Be at least eighteen years old
Three – Have had a green card for at least five years. Or, if you are married to a U.S. citizen, for three years.
Four – Have lived in the same state for at least three months before applying.
Five – Be a person of good moral character.
And Six – Be able to understand and speak basic English.
The next step in the process is to file Form N-four-hundred, Application for Naturalization. Naturalization is the term for becoming a U.S. citizen. Start your N-400 application now at:http://us.fileright.com/forms/n400-us…
The USCIS can take six months to about a year to process Form N-four-hundred depending on where you file the form. The form’s instructions indicate which office you are to send your application based on where you live in the U.S. Different offices may have different processing times.
After the USCIS accepts your application, you’ll have to go to a biometrics appointment – where they’ll take your fingerprints and run a background check. Once that’s completed, you will attend a citizenship interview with an immigration officer. Here, you’ll take the English and civics test, as well as answer questions about your application.
If the citizenship interview goes well, and you pass both tests, you’ll be scheduled to attend a citizenship ceremony. Here you’ll take the Oath of Allegiance.
Once you’re done with this step you’ll be a full citizen of the United States!
